Tribute to Professor Dr. Osmo Hänninen

Dear Friends, Colleagues and Family,

Today we come together to memorize Professor and Dr. Osmo Hänninen. Although we mourn the loss of a legendary scientist, dear colleague and friend, we pay tribute and celebrate his life.  It was a great life with many accomplishments and always a strong commitment to scientific education and research. His research covered a variety of disciplines, from physiology to occupational therapy to toxicology, and a variety of research questions as broad as oxidative stress, muscle physiology, effects of pollutants, and (most recently) electromagnetic radiation. Professor Hänninen always, however, considered the impact of the system being studied holistically within the context of the individual(s) affected, and focused on metrics quantification as an indicator of impact.

As an eminent scholar, Professor Hänninen was a co-founder for the International Society of Environmental Indicators (formerly International Society of Environmental Bioindicators). He also served as President of the International Society of Environmental Indicators from 2014-2019. He is well known and respected for his research accomplishment and leadership in the international scientific community, particularly with environmental indicators.

It is sad to realize his death has taken away a warm individual and good friend. It is a painful time for his family and all of us. With our heartfelt condolences, we wish his family strong to bear this significant loss.
